Bu çalışmanın amacı bazı matematiksel nesnelerin ve yapıların anlaşılırlık ve kullanılabilirlik yönünden problemler içerdiğini ve bu durumun öğrencilerin çalışmalarına ve öğrenmelerine doğrudan etkisi olabileceğini göstermektir. Bu amaçla ortaöğretim öğrencileri tarafından onların ev ödevi ve alıştırmalar gibi çalışmalarına yardımcı olmak amacıyla tasarlanmış bir Internet forumuna gönderilen iki sorunun detaylı matematiksel ve epistemolojik analizlerine yer verilmektedir. Sonuç olarak matematik temelli bir bilim dalı olan matematik eğitiminde matematiksel içeriği analiz etmeye imkİ¢n verecek teori ve yaklaşımlara duyulan ihtiyaç ortaya konmaktadır.
