Existentialism is one of the various depth models that constitute modernism, and Dostoyevsky’s Notes From Underground is regarded as the first existentialist novel. Keeping these in mind, in this article, first, the features that render this novel modernist and existentialist are tried to be determined. Secondly, as it is well known, existentialism lays emphasis on the idea of “life”. Moving from this point of view, the meaning of the idea of “life” according to the underground man, that is at the same time the hero and antihero of the novel, is tried to be investigated
