Abstract:

Flash floods and floods occurred in various locations in Trakya region due to rainfall intensity in November 16, 2007. Silivri, which is a county of Istanbul, is one of the locations occurred the flooding and settlements and industrial areas were affected. The reasons of the flooding on the Tuzla stream, which is located in the county district, were investigated using field works after the flood event and existing digital data of the Tuzla stream watershed. As a result, physiographic characteristics of the watershed and some misapplications and mislanduses on the Tuzla stream channel and its floodplain were found as reasons of the flooding besides rainfall. Also, floods will still occur as long as mislanduses keep in the floodplain area. Keywords: Flood, Mislanduse, Physiographic Feature, Tuzla Stream.
