In the present study, beachrock located in Kapıkaya beach southwest coast of the Gökçeada Island is discussed on the basis of geomorphologic, petrographic and microanalytical data. The seaward dipping (average: 8°) beachrock beds with maximum 50 cm thick extend in northwest-southwest direction parallel to that of the present beach, majority of which are submerged. According to EDX data, cement of the sequence is high Mg-calcite that amalgamates angular volcanic rock fragments and various minerals such as quartz, feldspar and less amount of opaque minerals. Thin micrite envelopes and crypto-crystalline pore-filling cements as evidence for marine phreatic conditions is predominant. The meniscus cement that occurs between the individual grains, however, could be indicative for the precipitation of CaCO3 in the meteoric-marine water mixing zone during any regressive stage of sea-level.
