ARMENIAN REBELLIONS DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR A national consciousness started to come into existence among Armenians with their mythologized history and overloaded feeling of confidence to the Armenian youth both at the community schools linked to the Patriarchate and schools, which had been opened by missionaries. With the stimulation of European countries, mainly of Russia, which tried to establish the new world order, this national consciousness started to form the ground of such a goal as “saving Turkish Armenia”. The city of Van acted as an outpost by its historical, geographical and demographical structure for this new goal of Armenians. Consequently, 1915 Van rebellions broke out. As the desired results could not be accomplished by the precautions of the central government, the riots happened to be destructive and sad in all respects
