Abstract:

Winds causes particules to scatter from the earth surface into the air when those are smaller than 50μm and to transfer them very remote distances throughout atmosphere. Depending on wind systems in desert regions, desert dust moving into distant areas by the atmosphere. As a result of this move out process, desert dust hangs in air for a while according to their dimensions, then they lands on surface by themselves. In the region of Southeastern Anatolia, the effect of desert dust, has been largely increased. To put forth reasons of this fact, some photos which been taken on area after obsertvations and some datas which obtained by land surveys, desert dust concentration maps and datas which has been derived from them, and some measurement values of PM measuring stations of local directorates from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation and meteorological datas of General Authority of Turkish State Meteorology Affairs has been used for this study.Desert dust, effects sight distance and especially the quality of air. PM (Particular Materials) concentrations, increases and an air contamination occures in big scale when particular materials which emerges by the existence of fossil fuels in use by wintertime and when the desert dust are also effective. Extreme pollution of air, causing serious health diseases and losses of yield and decrease of quality on plants.In this work, it has been researched key factors on distribution of desert dust by time and by location in the region of Sotheastern Anatolia and their effects on air quality as well.
