Even though there is an increase in practices of competitive intelligence system (CIS) and in researches related to these practices around the world, there is a limited scientific knowledge about CIS practices of companies running in Turkey. This study represents the findings of the research that aimed mainly to make a contribution to remedy this gap and specifically to determine how common CI activities are and how CI activities are currently applied in large top 500 companies in Turkey. The research was conducted by a questionnaire. The main results of this research indicate that the responded companies see competitive intelligence activities as an important factor for success of their companies, and they carry out these activities continuously. Furthermore, they indicate that their intelligence activities will increase alongside increasing competition in a near future. On the other hand, for presently, they carry out competitive intelligence activities mostly in an informal way by marketing departments, without establishing a separate CIS department.
