This paper first examines the implementation level of Total Quality Management (TQM) in the firms operating in the Turkish manufacturing industry. Then the relationship between TQM and firm performance is analyzed. In this relationship the effects of contextual variables (such as firm’s business type, size, years of experience in TQM, and whether firm operates in domestic or international markets) are investigated. The main findings of the study are: TQM implementation level is high, TQM implementation level varies in accordance with firm’s business type and size, there is a significant relationship between TQM implementation and firm’s operation and financial performance, and contextual variables have no effect on the relationship between TQM and firm’s performance.
