In order to raise the health status of the population; inequalities among individuals, social groups and regions should be eliminated, health of the poor should be raised and the distribution of financial burden over the health system should be fairer. The role of out of pocket health expenditures (OOPHE) is especially important for the countries which have middle and low income levels just like Turkey. The burden of the OOPHE, in return, brings changes in health utilization and of course in the health status. That is why at which circumstances the OOP payments arise and which factors affecting the households to face such payments has to be clarified. The aim of this study is, in the light of data obtained from the National Burden of Disease and Cost-Effectiveness Study, to lay out possible factors with their levels of affect on OOPHE in Turkey. The study was conducted through a sample, which refers to a representation of Turkey, in a total of 48057 people residing at 11481 households. In this study, logistic regression analysis method was used in this study with demographic, economic and health status variables are achieved. According to the results obtained from the study, OOP expenditures for health have a higher share in women, in the age group between 0-4, in the eastern region, in rural regions, in more crowded households, among the individuals who are out of marriageable age, among unemployed, among beneficiaries of SSK, in 5th income quintile, as the ill/diseased condition increases. Depending on those results, it is barely seen that there are inequalities among individuals, social groups, regions, in the health care delivery and in sharing the financial burden over the health system.
