Abstract Antioch was founded in 300 B.C.as a capital city of Seleucid Kingdom by Seleucus Nicator I., who was the commander of Alexander the Great. Therefore, the city, being a capital city of Seleucid Kingdom, achieved the condition of civilizations with ancient Greek culture and the Eastern culture. Thus, Antioch was the centre of Hellenistic culture in the Eastern part of world. This city was invaded by one of the most important commanders of Roman Empire in 64 B.C. When Roman reign commenced in Antioch, the status of being an autonomous city was given to the city in Roman Empire. In Antioch history, one of the most eminent events during the reign of Emperor Caligula, disciple of the Jesus Christ saints, Barnabas, Pavlos and Petrus settled in the city to disseminate the Christianity. As a result of the missionary services performed by these saints, they could congregate a mass which was called for the first time as Christians in Antioch 35-40 A.D. From Antioch, Christianity spread throughout the Roman World. This formation had an important effect on the city life by the time Antioch was ruled by Muslims 636 A.D. In the era of Roman reing known as Queen of the East, Antioch started to be ruled by Muslims: a period ended in Antioch history in which it had been going on for nine centuries. Also a new and long period which makes today's Turkish-Islam city character was formed, as a result of combining of local properties with Turkish-Islam civilization, which was mingled with Greek-Roman culture and Christianity for centuries, commenced.
