It's quite important to spot on the concept of hegemony to understand Gramsci's Works. The thinker points out at civil society against the political society's structure consisting of domination and force. Civil society uses hegemony and assentment where as the political society is based up on domination and force. This principle makes the civil society the main field of political struggle. However although hegemony seems to be at the right opposite side of domination and force, in real political struggles; domination, force, assentment and hegemony are found as combined altogether. The domination forced by the state on the public is usually being smoothed within the civil society. For Gramsci, the civil society which stands very closely to economical area hides state's enforcements on the political society. As long as civil society is capable of relaxing the tension between masses and central authorities, state postpones using forces of domination like the army as far as a hegemonic crise hits itself.
