Abstract:

Abstract Mardin vernacular architecture exposes unique samples in the boundary of Turkey. The reason of this statement derives from the geographic location of Mardin and Mardin topographic structure. Dwellings were settled on the piedmont, from the castle on the top to the highway, between east and west direction. Every single settlement has shown different kind of sample due to their plots. In this city, designing a house is idiachronic and in the light of the user's needs and opportunities. Yards are settled when altitude is proper to design and entries are adjusted when topography is enable. These are the first rules of designing a house in the city of Mardin. There is not any empty plot to settle a new house in the current condition. Furthermore, it is not possible to demolish a house in all this settlement. Demolishing a house of this pattern effects to other neighbouring houses. In this case, designing this city has been completed centuries ago and this situation allows just a chang within the boundaries of the houses.
