Abstract:

The number of workplaces where worked with display screen has increased considerably because of computer use has been increasing in workplaces day by day. Besides computer, those below can also be included in display screen equipment: Programmable work benches which are used in industrial system, video cams, computing machines and calculators which are used in firms and offices, television and radio transmitters, telephone and telegraph, equipment which show results of data and measurement. Ignoring some technical and ergonomic rules while using the display screen equipment can cause serious health problems and occupational diseases. Because of these concerns, the European Union has enacted the directives on Minimum Safety and Health Requirements in the 90/270/EEC numbered study related to the Work with Display Screen Equipment. As for Turkey, the regulation on Health and Safety Measures in Work with Display Screen Equipment was enacted with respect to the adaptation process to the European Union. In our study, firstly health problems stemming from working with display screen have been told. Then legal regulations that were enacted to eradicate and reduce these problems have been mentioned and these regulations have been criticized in terms of positive and negative aspects.
