The aim of this paper is to analyze the main factors affecting women’s trade union participation. Trade unions have been facing pressures and problems due to the globalization, economic crisis and other social and economic factors. There are some problems to overcome when a comparative analysis about union membership or participation is considered. Therefore, some fundamental problems regarding the statistics and data of union participation can be found and these difficulties prevent researchers making accurate comparisons. Thus, international comparative analyses should be taken carefully. Participation to the unions, especially women to participate, is analyzed based on some previous studies in order to show the general trend. When the issue of women participation to the unions is analyzed, some barriers to participate can be easily found. These barriers can range from family responsibilities and the lack of knowledge about the benefits of union participation to the social attitudes and beliefs. Participation to the unions, especially women to participate, is an important issue in order to evaluate the future of the trade unions and to protect their viability
