This study is intended to emphasize the place and role of saz music in Classical Turkish Music. The findings of study conducted with a descriptive model and document-scanning method have indicated that saz music has come to be of secondary importance in our country as a result of the fact that verbal music has gained importance and popularity. It has been determined that due to this lack of interest, our saz works composed especially in the classical age and ensuing periods have either disappeared or got forgotten due to not having been notated. It also appears that composers who are very capable of producing works as in the classical age are not trained or reared today. When we consider the saz works from technical perspective, there appear such problems as that saz music has been written according to the human voice since the old times, that there are not parts that push the limits of saz, that it has terminological problems, and that a lot of playing techniques are not indicated with certain musical symbols in the works like in the western music. However, there are Turkish composers who produce works according to the content and technical structure of the saz music. Tamburi Cemil Bey, Ferit Alnar and Reşat Aysu are the leading ones of them. Today Göksel Baktagir is one of our composers who contribute a lot to the saw music with his successful works
