1518, 1530 ve 1591 yıllarına ait Tahrir Defterlerinde Bayburt’a bağlı nahiye, 1642 ‘Avârız Defterinde ise kaza olarak zikredilen Koğans, Trabzon-Erzurum-Tebriz ticaret yolu üzerinde bulunması nedeniyle coğrafi olarak önemli bir konumda olduğu söylenebilir. Bu çalışmada Koğans’ın 1591 yılı tahrir verileri ile 1642 yılı ‘avârız kayıtları nüfus-yerleşme bağlamında mukayese edilmeğe ve 1642 yılına ait kayıtlar çerçevesinde nüfus yapısı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır
