Abstract:

Academic studies about ecocriticism, which began to occur as a self‐contained critical theory from the beginning of 1990’s, are also seen nowadays in our country. Nowadays, when environmental problems have become a global threat, it is certain that the novels with environmental themes can contribute to the formation of mass awareness. In this case, it is possible to assort that analyzing environmental issues by reflections on novels is quite important. In this study, primarly the theoretical background and historical development of ecocriticism will be introduced and then Yaşar Kemal’s aesthetic attitude towards environmental problems will be determined in the context of his novel named Kuşlar da Gitti (The Birds Has Also Gone). This study also aims to reveal the characteristics of this novel seperated from other texts that are suitable for examination in this respect and to interpret the new approaches in environmental sensivity.
