Statism is one of the six principles of Atatürk. It entered the party program in the congress of RPP dated 1931. Statism was the youngest and the most debated principle due to its definition compare to the other principles. The conditions of that period played a key role to define statism. This shows that the practical value of statism was beyond its ideological value and it was interpreted pragmatically. Although there are different definitions of statism, private enterprise is not rejected in any of the party programs, on the contrary, it was seen as the basis of economy. Besides, an important place was always reserved for the state in the economy and the state, approximately in all programs, served as the locomotive for economy.
