Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to bring 4th -grade-students’ parents view on getting the value of responsibility in Social Studies course. The research data was collected through semi-structured interview technique within the framework of Qualitative research approach . The research took place with the participation of parents of 4th grade students in Namık Kemal Primary School in Eskisehir in 2010-2011 Education Year. Parents of 24 students have participated in the survey.The research is solved by using the technique of descriptive analysis within the framework of a qualitative research approach. According to research findings, the majority of students’ parents think that getting the value of responsibility is not enough. Almost all of the students’ parents mentioned that students should be given responsibilities to the extent of their capacity. Almost all parents of students mentioned that they verbally warned their children to fulfill the tasks given by the teacher. The majority of students’ parents mentioned that parents must take into account of teacher’s warnings. The majority of parents expressed the opinion that the environment is significant for the students in taking responsibility
