Özet:

The minority population that is living in the Western Thrace region of Greece, is receiving education in their native language in accordance with the related acts of the Treaty of Lausanne. This education is being provided by the bilingual minority schools in the region. These schools that were self-administrated previously , they lost their autonomous characteristic by the acts that are passed. as the years passed.The Turkish population that live in the region ,should only send their children to the bilingual minority primary schools or to the public schools that provide education only in Greek. The right of education in native language is granted only to the Turkish population that live in the Westrn Thrace. The Turkish population that live in the other regions of Greece don’t have this right. According to the data by Ministry of Education of Greece related with the education years of 2001-2002 there are 223 Minority Schools in Western Thrace. At these schools approximately 7000 students are receiving education and at minority primary schools 417 Turkish and 437 Greek teachers are working. The books for the Turkish curriculum in these schools , are being send by the Turkish Government.The education programme of minority schools is from the year of 1957 and it is necessary to be restored. Since the year of 2000 there is a decrease in the number of the students that are attending to the minority schools. By reason of advantages that are provided by the Greek government for the Turkish Minority students that are graduated from the public schools when they are getting to university, the number of students that are choosing public schools are increasing day by day. The studies show that as a result of the legal arrangements the minority schools are unsucessful in teaching both of the languages effectively
