Abstract:

Turkmen who established big and small states, even empires have past regarding thousands years with civilization based on traditional culture. In today's Turkmen community the elderly men and women as bearers of culture give great importance Turkmen carpets are weaved with the roots are processed with paint and Turkmen jewelry is usually made of silver and precious stones called ‘şay-sep’ This article consists of two main sections; In the first section; we analyze the work of jeweler term under the name of the work of a jeweler craft of historical development and archaeological finds. In the second section; we studied Turkmen women's social status and the work of a jeweler craft. In addition, jewelry and Turkmen motifs were examined in a detailed way. The purpose of this study: It is to meet that Turkmen have the thousands of years of history with archaeological and ethnographic sources, advanced jewelry art possessed and Turkmen women's handicrafts contributed to the family budget and to meet relationship between Turkmen woman’s status and piece of jewelery. We have been in Turkmenistan more than 10 years as an instructor and in the meantime we visited all cities several times. This provided and allowed us to research this issue. In this study: Libraries in Merv, Daşoğuz Köhneürgenç and capital Ashgabad, national museums, personal libraries in houses were visited and searched by us. In addition we aimed to talk face to face with academicians who are interedted in the work of a jeweler and we had opportunity of observation. Finally, we talk about Jewelery art which has crucial appreciation starts in the tribal life of Turkmen. Turkmen piece of jewelry contains perfection and diversity on art, contents on different turkmen tribe, national history and culture on processing, naming and production.
