This is a study of descriptive character, which studies certain variants of the historic reasons and political incidents of our cognates migrating from Bulgaria to Turkey in 1989 The research data was sum up by a 40 question survey, which was developed by the researcher. The survey was made on 239 cognates, 81 of them women and 158 of them men, which reside in Bursa, Ankara, Istanbul, Kocaeli, Tekirdağ and Edirne. The data was analyzed by SPSS packet programme. According to the results of the study, our cognates who came to Turkey in 1989 mostly were settled in Bursa, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Kocaeli and Istanbul; the mostly lived cities in Bulgaria were Kırcaali, Dobric, Plovdiv, Varna and Hasköy. It occurred that approximately 2/3 of them have still living relatives in Bulgaria, that names of cognates were forced to change, and that some of the neighbors mistreated them by religious, cultural, political, social and economical pressure. It appears that the half of the test subjects who took part in the research believe that Turkey's policy of cognates from Bulgaria is deficient.
