Abstract:

Abstract enIn this study, it was aimed to examine the psychological needs of the university students at the department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling in Dokuz Eylül University in relation to some demographic and psychosocial characteristics. A total of 84 (66 female, 18 male) students from all grades participated to the study. Data were collected by “Edwards Personal Preference Schedule” and a “Personal Information Form” prepared by the researchers to get information about the students. Results indicated that, in total sample, the highest need domains were “intraception, change, succorance, nurturance” and the lowest ones were “deference, order, abasement and exhibition”. The result also showed significant relationships between demographic, psychosocial characteristics and psychological needs. In the study, the findings were discussed with their educational implications.
