Abstract enAll parts of society are currently experiencing the effects of the information explosion era. This requires individuals in every institutions to update their knowledge, skills and attitudes on a daily basis, and managers are forced to provide opportunities for the personal development of their employees. In education, in-service teacher training courses are offered for teachers to improve their skills. Studies show that most of the teacher training courses are ineffective, expensive and far from being appealing. Until recently, there wasnât anything to replace current classroom based teacher training courses. Computer based education and distance education are some of the new attempts to improve the effectiveness of the in-service training, but they have not been successful yet. Electronic performance support system (EPSS) is a new technology used in human resources development field. According to this technology, rather than pulling employees into a training setting, removed from the context of the actual job, knowledge and procedures are best learned on the job while being supported with a computer. In Türkiye, there isnât any EPSS application. But, Turkish Ministry of national Education has several projects to provide computers in every school and to establish a network among the schools. These are the main hardware requirements for developing an EPSS. In Türkiye, there are enough educated personnel and financial resources to develop EPSS software. According to task analysis of teachers, a set of software that will help teachers do their job on planning, material development, grading, communications and behavior management can be built. If teachers are able to reach EPSS easily, they can improve their knowledge and skills on teaching profession. This, also, might help to improve the quality of education system.
