Abstract:

Abstract enThe purpose of this study was to identify the elementary school teachers’ knowledge about the learning disabilities. 32 elementary school teachers were participated to this study in Bolu. The questionnaire which was prepared by the researchers were demonstrated to the elementary school teachers to get information. As a result, it was found that 50 % of the teachers who were graduated from the department of elementary education emphasized the learning disability as a mentally retarded. 37.5 % of the teachers were identified the children who have learning disability as the children who have pyhsical disability. However, 62.5 % of the other group said their learning capacity is not enough to teach and 40 % of the teachers stressed learning disability as a mentally retarded. The results of the study showed that the teachers need to have an information about learning disability. This can be provided with the inservice training and undergraduate programs.
