Abstract enIt is needed to increase supposed teachersâ qualities on the basis of the new curriculum which was developed to educate individuals who are thinking, questioning, criticizing and aware of his/her responsibilities. âGeneric Competencies of Teaching Professionâ covering the professional knowledge, skill and attitudes was again identified newly by the Ministry of National Education according to the aim of increasing the qualities of teachers who give education supporting social needs and the requirements of the period. The purpose of this study is to define consultants at the Ministry of National Education, the school directors and teachersâ opinions about âthe new generic competences of teaching professionâ. Qualitative research method is used in this study. Data was collected from the school directors and teachers at primary schools in Ankara which are determined as pilot schools applying ânew generic competences of teaching professionâ by the Ministry of National Education and the consultants from the Ministry of National Education. Interview form is used as a data collection tool. Data, which was gathered from interviews, was analyzed and interpreted with content analysis.
