Abstract:

Abstract enIn this study, It is aimed to classify festivals conducted in Turkey according to their theme, month and region. To fulfill this aim, necessary information about festivals have been obtained by scrutinising annual reports of 81 municipalities and the ministry of culture and tourism. In conclusion, it is concluded that 1243 festivals consisting of different themes were organized in 2013. Besides this result, while Marmara region was founded to host the largest number of festivals, Southeaster Anatolian region was ranked in the bottom in terms of festival number. Regarding distribution of festivals by theme, Culture themed festivals were ranked as having the highest number while business themed festivals were conducted fewest. As to prevalence of festival by months. İt was come up with that while July has the largest festival population, both January and December were ascertained to host fewest festivals in number. Implications about effective marketing strategies for destination administrator in Turkey were presented from different perspectives
