Abstract enThis paper introduces illuminated headings of four different Mushaf-ı Şerîfs from XIXth century Ottoman period which were sold at London Christie’s auctions between 2010 and 2013. These illuminated manuscripts, dated second half of XIXth century, represent a Western-oriented taste which effected thoroughly in the XIXth century called ‘Westernization/Innovation’ in Ottoman art. Illuminated headings are examined through their motifs/composition styles and evaluated in terms of representing their period’s illumination style. It is thought that the illuminated headings examined in this paper convey descriptive features regarding the style, which is called ‘Turkish rococo’, developed differently from the classical style in XIXth century Ottoman art of illumination
