Abstract enYakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu was a writer who left his mark in the Turkish Literatüre of the Republican Period, and a prolihc artist who produced works virtually in every field of literatüre. He gave his support to the War of Independence through his writings, and worked as a member of parliament and a diplomat for a long time. Bom into an aristocratic family, Yakup Kadri spent his childhood in a palace in Egypt. His being a nobleman, his educational background, and his having good knowledge, particularly, of the westem culture make itself apparent in his works. As is known, Yakup Kadri in his novel Yaban (The Stranger) has a pessimistic view of the village life and the peasants. This study examines how Yakup Kadri views the village, the peasants and the general public in his other works.
