Abstract enThe purpose of this study is to examine in terms of design principles the "Yörük carpet", which is a kind of carpet art that the Turks brought to world civilization. The scope of the research constitutes harmony, rhythm, pattern, complement, overlap, balance, contrast, proportion, emphasis, movement, repetition and economy of design principles. The Yörük carpet has examined by composition method (formal) which is one of the mixed methods of visual image analysis. This method examines images based on arrangement principles such as color, tone and contrast, etc. (Duncum, 2017, p.11). In other words, an answer has been sought to ask how the elements of art (color, shape, etc.) are arranged with design principles on the carpet. Because of differences in the design of the carpets woven in different regions of Turkey; Uşak, Lâdik ve Milas etc. is called on the carpets (Aslanapa, 2005). In this study, Yörük carpet, which has an important place in Turkish carpet art, was chosen as a sample. The selected carpet was visually recreated as a "vector extension image" in digital media. The visual data obtained from this created image is divided into groups, colors, segments. The fictional pattern of the color schemes and motifs of the nomadic carpet is revealed. Despite the use of very few colors (6 colors) and motifs (12 motifs) it has been seen that there is a great wealth in design. This motif and the formal styling of the colors almost meet all the organizational principles of art.
