Abstract enIn order to be able to stand up in today’s rapidly changing competitive environment, firms should constantly change and renew their products, services and production methods. Manufacturing of agricultural equipment and machinery is one of the sectors mostly impressed by technological developments. Smart agricultural machinery having technological equipment facilitates farmers’ work, preserves the environment and increases efficiency. In this study aiming at presenting the impact of R&D and innovation policies applied in Turkey between 2005 and 2015 on SMEs in the sample of the sector of manufacturing of agricultural equipment and machinery in Konya, recognitions of the notions of science, technology, R&D and innovation and various innovation indicators are given and technology and innovation policies applied on SMEs are mentioned by handling Turkey’s policies on science, technology, R&D and innovation in terms of historical process. In the section of application of the study, results of the survey made with 101 firms being active in the sector of manufacturing of agricultural equipment and machinery in Konya. Accordingly, 89 out of the firms participated in the survey don’t find R&D and innovation incentives applied in Turkey sufficient. It is seen that 57 firms have performed innovative activities in the last five years. Research findings suggest that the policies to be carried out to increase SMEs’ levels of technological capability are of huge importance.
