Abstract:

Abstract enThis study investigates the learning styles of secondary school learners in foreign language teaching and the possible effect of the gender variable on their learning style preferences. The students, who continued the ninth, tenth and eleventh grade in 2005-2006 academic years in Aydınlıkevler Anatolian Communication High School, participated in this study by filling the learning style questionnaire. Felder and Silverman’s questionnaire was used in the study. The research is consisting of 152 students. It has been found that female students preferred Visual-Verbal learning styles in the input dimension mostly. In this study, generally, it has been seen that the learners prefer Visual learning style the most. Both female and male students preferred Visual Learning Style when the learning styles are examined separately in each dimension. The results of the study suggest that it is necessary to benefit from the learning styles in foreign language teaching process.
