Abstract:

The aim of the study is to determine critical thinking tendencies of the second stage of elemantary level students. Research group includes 311 students in the second stage studying in two selected schools of which are a state and a private school located in İzmir. Data was collected with “The California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory – CCTDI” adopted by Kökdemir (2003). The reliability of scale which applied the primary school students was found to be 0,698. In this context, primary school students in public schools and private school students were evaluated on the basis of school and clasroom levels in critical thinking tendency levels. As a result of findings set out that its low of critical thinking tendency for primary grades students’. According to the results of research, primary school students fail to win in higher-order thinking skills. This result should be questioned in during the transition from abstract to the concrete
