Abstract:

Press and politics are constantly in a relationship as two important actors of the same social system.  The press, which is intended to inform the public, has mostly been under the influence of political powers or has tried to influence political powers. In the historical process, as throughout the world, in Turkey, this cycle has always manifested itself. The pressure on the press in Turkey in terms of both the freedom of the press and the public interests of the press, which is the primary task of the press, has occurred in the period of the National Chef in which the CHP alone was in power. The Serdengeçti magazine, which began its publication life in the single party period, has given an important test in terms of the ethical principles of journalism. In addition to the single party power, the publication line of the Serdengeçti magazine, published in the period of the CHP-AP coalition after the DP and the May 27, 1960 coup, is worth examining. In the framework of this study, the relations with the political powers of the Serdengeçti magazine have been examined through news and comments and qualitative content analysis. Both in terms of press freedom, as well as pursuing the public interest, which is the main duty of the press, the most intense pressure has occurred to the press when the CHP has the power alone during the 'National Chief'. The magazine, which has been launched its broadcast life in such an environment, has given an important exam in terms of journalistic ethics. Serdengeçti magazine's publication line which is in favor of right and in favor of public, should be considered, has been published during the period CHP-AP coalition, in addition to one-party rule, after DP period and 27 May 1960 military coup. In this study, the magazine’s relationship with political power by taking over the news and comments were analyzed by qualitative content analysis.
