Abstract:

Illiteracy and poverty were the worst adversary the Philippine government has been encountering. For many years, efforts and funds were expended by the government to alleviate the problem that affects mostly the underprivileged citizens of the country. In search for prompt gratification of their needs, children and youth struggle to keep up with schooling and tend to satisfy their immediate concern by dropping out of school. This research study aimed to look into the factors influencing the dropout rate in Alternative Learning System – Accreditation and Equivalency Program of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines. The result of this study was utilized in planning and developing a proposed responsive guidance program for the ALS learners. It was found out that majority of the reasons for dropping out from the program happened due to lack of interest and employment.
