Anadolu’nun iç kısımlarını Konya üzerinden tarihi Alanya limanına bağlayan yol üzerinde bulunan Akseki, 16. yüzyılın başlarında Alâiye Kazası’na bağlı bir nahiye iken bu yüzyılın ikinci yarısında yapılan idari düzenleme ile kaza statüsüne kavuşturulmuştur. Akseki isminde bir yerleşim yeri bulunmayıp, bu ismini Marolya Köyü’nde kurulan Akseki ismindeki pazardan almıştır. Bölgenin ekonomik durumu önemli ölçüde tarım ve hayvancılığa dayanmaktadır. Bu yüzyılın sonuna doğru Anadolu şehir ve kasabalarında olduğu gibi Akseki’nin de nüfusu ve ürettiği ürünlerde önemli miktarda artışlar olmuştur.
