Successful and sustainable development of tourism in a destination should be supported by residents. This requirement also applies to Datca as a developing tourist destination. The aim of this study is to investigate the resident attitudes towards sustainable tourism development and tourism establishments as a developing tourism destination in Datca. According to the results of the study, the residents have high levels of acceptance to the development of sustainable tourism in general. The maximum agreement of residents in sustainable tourism development dimensions is environmental sustainability. This means that residents’ awareness of environmental protection has improved. However the average agreement level of social cost of tourism is much lower than the rate of other sustainable tourism development dimensions. This shows that the awareness of the social costs of tourism need to raise. Attitudes of local community towards tourism establishments may be converging to the positive as a developing tourism destination. However, alternative tourism establishments are favored much compared to mass tourism businesses.
