Abstract:

The intense influence of Sebk-i Hindî is observed in the 17th century poets. By the effect of this style, the meanings in poems became intricate and enclosed. Much was tried to be explained by few words. Suffering, pain, and grief of man’s inner world became the subject of poetry. Fehîm-i Kadîm, who lived in this century, also handled with similar feelings in his poems. This attitude of him is closely related to the literary style he represents as well as the misfortunes he lived during his short life. The author couldn’t find peace and comfort in Istanbul, where he was born and grew up, and he wanted to get out of there. After travelling to Jerusalem, Mecca, Medina and Edirne on several occasions, he went to Egypt and stayed there almost three years. He couldn’t find what he expected in Egypt and he started to feel homesick. He reflected his deep longing for homeland and pessimistic mood to his poems. Though he set off towards his hometown, he died on the way before his desire came true. In this study, the place and importance of homesickness and land yearning in Fehîm-i Kadîm’s poems has been analyzed. The analogies between the author’s life and the feelings reflected in his poems is revealed.
