During the first world war, Turkish-American political relations were ruptured. To re-establish these relationships, some negotiations were held between representatives of the two states in Lausanne and a “Treaty of Friendship and Commerce” was signed. When this agreement was presented to the American Congress there was a conflict of Lausanne between the proponents and opponents of the agreement. In this process, The Turks living in the US, in cooperation with Turkish Welfare Association and the support of Turkey supported the campaign of “yes to lausanne” and sent a letter to the American Congress which was entitled : “To the Leaders of the Country of the Free”.
