Abstract:

This article aims to analyze the teachings in the verses of the Quran and the prophetic traditions, such as meeting people’s needs, taking care of others and holding the interest of the society above personal interest which develop the consciousness for social responsibility and to evaluate some of the modern trends and practices that emerged in contemporary societies as a response to the pressing need regarding social responsibility making use of the findings from the prophetic traditions. It is inferred that many topics that are discussed in the prophetic traditions have a social aspect and that there are many guidances to strengthen the societal bonds and that being beneficial to other people is a reason for great merit. The article further analyzes the practices of “Corporate Social Responsibility” and “Community Service”, which aim to solve many societal problems that emerged recently, to contribute to the society in a positive way and to develop social consciousness, making comparisons with the principles derived from the verses and the prophetic traditions.
