İslam düşüncesinin teşekkül sürecinde ortaya çıkan ve inanç prensiplerini akli ilkelerle temellendiren Mu‘tezile ekolü, özellikle akılcı ve eleştirel bir yöntem uygulaması sebebiyle dikkatleri üzerine çekmiştir. Diğer din ve medeniyetlerle karşılaşma sürecinde ortaya çıkıp entelektüel bir mücadelede bulunması da ayrı bir önem arzetmektedir. Ayrıca içerisinde farklı fikri eğilimleri ve dini görüşleri bulundurması da önemli özelliklerinden biridir. Tebliğimizde; bu gün bir mezhep olarak Mu’tezile ismiyle bir ekol olmasa da bunların görüşlerini savunan insanların bulunduğu bir takım verilerle delillendirilecektir. Özellikle modernist düşünce ile karşılaştırıldığında aralarında benzerliklere dikkat çekilecektir
