Abstract:

Art, as an expression of blending productivity with the emotions and imagination, has maintained the relationship between the human and the reality of nature and in every period of human history has been one of the most important parts of social life for centuries. With the effects of the II. World War, the influence of social development and changes were considerably high on individuals, as observed in this process, it is believed that people were drifting towards emotional corruption. Depending on the social changes, the emotional and spiritual experiences of individuals stand out as an important factor in the development of the conceptual process of the emergence of the 20. century sense of art. The Abstract Expressionism, the result of the spiritual experiences that occur inevitably in individuals, developed in New York in the mid-1940’s as a type of Abstract Art and adopted by the artists as the emotions just expressed with colors and shapes without including natural representation. Mark Rothko can be identified as one of the representatives of “Color Field Painting” -also known as “Post-Painterly Abstraction”- referred to a particular type of Abstract Expressionism. In the artworks of the artist composed after approximately 1947, color has been used as the most important tool of expression and the feelings as pain, joy, grief, death, doom has embodied. Together with the anger he felt and his religious thoughts, the artist only wanted to draw emotions. He worked on fairly large canvases and he has been recognized around the world as the creator of a unique style especially with the artworks of rectangular zones with circular corners painted with vibrant colors on a monochrome background.
