Abstract:

After 1980s, because of the expansion of the use of entrepreneurship concept with the effect of knowledge, technology and globalization process and also as a result of the rapid increase in the number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),all attentions has been directly turned to SMEs with the expectations of spreading capital to the base level, increasing employment level, reducing the income inequities, the spread of social benefits by providing social development within the scope of the SME businesses. In this study, it is mainly focused on the meaning of entrepreneurship concept and basic features of entrepreneurs in SMEs, which are seen as "locomotive actors" for Turkish economy. In the context of statistical data, this study has dealed with SMEs' share in total investment level, total employment level, value added and total export level in Turkey.
