Abstract:

Gender roles and expectations that are described and imposed by the society and the consequent gender discrimination bring about inequality and negative consequences in various areas. Health is one of the areas which cause the inequality brought about by gender roles and expectations. Between health and gender there is an invisible and inseparable bond. In this study, it is intended to address the approach to men's health and women's health within the perspective of social gender roles. The effects of the social gender roles and the inequalities on women's and men's health are examined. It is put forward that, instead of identifying and solving the health problems that are caused by social gender inequalities, health is being redefined and restructured by medicalized fields and subjects; and the social gender roles are reinforced along the process
