Çevre kirliliğininönemli sebepleri artan sanayileşme ve kentleşmedir. Ülkeler için hedeflenen ekonomik büyüme gerçekleştirilirken çevre tahribatları da ekonomik büyümenin ilk zamanlarında artış göstermektedir. Gelişme düzeyi arttıkça teknoloji yoğun gerçekleştirilen çevre dostu üretimler çevre kirliliğini bir oranda azaltsa da yine de alınan önlemler çevre tahribatını azaltmada yeterli olmamaktadır. Bu yüzden çevre kirliliği ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişki çevre ekonomisi literatüründe sürekli ilgi çeken bir konu olmuştur. Bu çalışmada; Türkiye’nin 1960-2013 dönemlerini kapsayan hava kirliliği göstergesi olarak karbondioksit (CO2) gazı emisyonu, ekonomik büyüme göstergesi olarak da gayri safi yurtiçi hasıla (GSYİH) verileri kullanılarak hava kirliliği ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki incelenmiştir. Bağımlı değişken olarak CO2 değişkeni ve bağımsız değişken olarak da GSYİH değişkeni kullanılmıştır. Yapılan Zivot Andrews (1992) birim kök testi sonucunda seriler birinci dereceden bütünleşik bulunmuştur. Ardından Gregory Hansen (1996) eşbütünleşme testi uygulanarak değişkenler arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki incelenmiştir. Gregory Hansen kırılmalı eşbütünleşme testi sonucuna göre Türkiye’nin 1960-2013 dönemlerine ait hava kirliliği ile gelir verileri arasında rejim değişimi modeli uzun dönemli ilişki bulunmuştur.
