Abstract:

Mehmed Zihni’s book, titled al-Kawl al-jayyid, is a study about the couplets in Qazvini’s Talhis al-Miftâh, Taftazani’s Mutawwal and Mukhtasar al-maani and Sayyid Sharif Jurjani’s glosses on Mutawwal. The existence of criti-cism over the major Arabic language and rhetoric books, including the ones mentioned above, had fairly disturbed Mustafa Sabri and impelled him to write a harsh refutation about al-Kawl al-jayyid. In this article, we examined Mustafa Sabri’s study published in the journal of Bayan al-Haq, and tried to show from which aspects the author and his work were criticized.
