Literacy has a vital importance onshaping individual’s academical future and life at future. It is inevitable that the individual who hasn’t literacy skills has some problems in his/her forward life. It is aimed in this research to identify the effects of the computer based education on initial literacy skills of primary school first grade students. The working group is composed of 58 students who are studying at Yıldıztepe Primary School in 2013-2014 academic years. 29 of this working group belong to experimental group and the other 29 belong to control group. This research was formed as last test control group of real experimental method and putted into practise at the field during the academic year. While courses were taught by computer based education in the experimental group, the courses in the control group were taught by the traditional teaching method. Reading skill scale, dictation skill scale which were developed by Obalar in 2009 and reading speed paragraph were used to gather data for the study. According to the research, the control group reached 43,75 word average and the experimental group reached 61,03 word average. According to these averages, there is a remarkable difference in favor of experimental group in terms of the speed of loudly reading. Computer based education has a positive effect to improve the primary school first grade students’ speed of loudly reading. The other results of this research are as follows:Computer based education has a positive effect to improve the primary school first grade students’ reading skills. But computer based education hasn’t a possitive effect to improve the primary school first grade students’ dictation skills.
