The aim of this research is to determine the effect of learning via movies on students‟ success in elementary school sixth grade “Social Sciences” lesson, teaching “I am learning Social Sciences” unit. The research has been carried out with experimental pattern. The success test developed by the researcher has been used as the data collection tool in the research. Evaluation tool which has been developed has been applied on 66 students studying on sixth grade of cacabey elementary school during the first term of 2009–2010 education year. In resolving the sub problems of the research; a method with experiment control group has been used, that is pre-test and post-test. This research has been carried out with two different groups one of which is the experimental and the other is a control group in elementary sixth grade “I am learning Social Sciences” unit. It has been planned to use methods and techniques suitable for teaching via movies activities in the experimental group. In the research the experimental group was made to watch the movie “Devrim Arabaları ” (2008) produced by Pinema Productions. Among these classes Experiment-1 (Group A) has been applied pretest and then has been made to watch the movie, the unit subjects have been taught and post-test has been applied. Experiment-2 (Group B) has been applied pre-test, the unit subjects have been taught (teaching, question-answer, discussion) and post-test has been applied. This group hasn‟t been made to watch a movie on grounds of the research. An understandable difference has been found between the experimental group and control group preexperiment and post-experiment pre-test and post-test total between the “I am learning social sciences” unit success marks. Post-test success marks of experimental group students in “I am learning social sciences”, has shownn an understandable difference comparing the experimental group they are in
