Özet:

Coasts are areas which are places of interaction between land and sea and always have various usages of coastal areas. These areas which are used as industrial fields in coastal areas in city centers and then lose their functions and become areas of depression are one of the above-mentioned types of usages. Reviving these kinds of areas for the benefit of coast, city and the people with the help of the projects which can provide the protective and sustainable continuity of the coastal areas is one of the important transformation projects in coastal areas in city centers. The positive effects of these projects (of which there exist examples in the world) to the coasts and to the usage of the coastal areas have made transformation projects in coasts increase. The Sekapark Project which is a similar example in our country is our study subject with its area, the transformation it had, the differentiation in the usage of coasts and the positive effects it had on the coastal areas. Sekapark has been discussed in terms of the effects occurring as a result of the transformation it has made in the coastal area, protecting the coastal areas, increasing the sustainable utilization, being in the public interest, ensuring the integration of people with the coastal areas, meeting the necessities of the city and the people and making the city become a coastal city. In the study, the mentioned transformations will be discussed; the changes in the coastal area of Izmit Sekapark from past to present, the usage of coasts resulted from the transformation and the effects made to the coastal area will be studied.
