The purpose of this study is to describe the views of primary school teachers and administrators about rewarding teachers and current practices in Turkey. Data were collected through focus group interviews and document analysis. Focus group interviews were conducted through web based interview and 24 teachers participated. In terms of document analysis, legislation for rewarding and rewarding with salary, official documents and lists were analyzed. Findings indicated that teachers and administrators perceived rewarding as an important factor for teacher motivation but reported a number of problems with the practices of rewarding. These problems are related to both legislation and practices of the rewarding process. Findings suggested that developing a rewarding legislation based on concrete and objective criteria is necessary for realizing an effective rewarding system.
